Updating the house and the Window Blinds and Shades to go with!
Recently trying to update the look and feel to my house has been fun, but finding the right shades or window blinds for my home was definitely a task. I wanted to make sure they fit the look of my home without compromising the actual cool looking windows I have. I searched online a lot! After much time online and getting rather overwhelmed with all the different types to choose from, I ended up going with many different designs for my place.
For my living room I went with vertical blinds. It was easy to choose which type I wanted after looking at the size of my windows, and after taking all the measurements. My large windows are very fitting for vertical blinds. Any window covering would have worked, but my windows fit vertical blinds to the T! Sticking with good ole white blinds sat well with the inside and outside of my home. Opening and closing them is a breeze too.
Finding the correct fit of window coverings for my bedrooms was a bit of a challenge. Woven wood shades and/or bamboo shades seem to be the most ideal with look and style. I went with a darkened wood with fabric lined shades that matched the colors of the rooms. This also allowed me to use them to darken the rooms very well. They are also easy to open and close and I was surprised with how easy it was to install them. Just took a bit of elbow grease and my new shades were up and running.
My family room has a lot of darker overtones to it, with black mahogany furniture and crystal glass objects. I went with cellular blinds that have a fabric that matched the furniture almost exactly. The fabric is very soft to the touch and also keeps out the sun and heat very well. The ease of opening, closing, and raising them is phenomenal! What an addition this was! Keeping the colors dark, having cool new blinds and the ease of the performance of them has been awesome!
The window coverings I chose for my children's bedrooms were pretty easily chosen. Kids not being too particular as long as they were easy to use were a cinch. I chose cellular blinds with a fabric design of children's toys such as Thomas Trains for my boys and mermaids for the girls. This personal touch keeps them smiling!
My dining room, being exceptionally formal, I chose a bamboo blind to blend in with the bamboo furniture and my teakwood table. The blinds came very well made and this allowed me to open and close them easily to block out the sun which is a blessing in the heat of the day.
For my guest room I decided to do something completely different and chose soft draperies as the window coverings. The window coverings are a white Pricilla style and make the room look extremely welcoming and elegant. I know my guests will enjoy staying in this very unique room.
When you are choosing any kind of window shades, blinds, or coverings, look around the room a few times. Then cheerfully decide what best suits your taste in color and style. Happy hunting!
