Tips to Choose Elegant Toile Window Treatments
If you want your house to look different from the rest of your friends' or neighbours', Toile patterns is the thing to go for. Window with lavish curtains add great looks to your interiors and they are certainly one of the most crucial parts of not only looks but also proper lighting in all your rooms. They add the vital finishing touch to your home. However, most people end up selecting window curtains which are just shades on their rooms or simple printed patterns. Toile window treatments can prove to be much different than the regular patterns in that case.
Toile is a pattern design on curtains and other home décor fabrics which is typically of whitish or light background and on which there is a repeated pattern of a certain scene like a countrified or rural theme. Toile window treatments add soft and cultural looks to your interiors. The theme originally dates back to France or Ireland and has typical patterns on them made of carved blocks usually black, red or blue in colour. Usually the print is also carved on cotton cloth.
However since toile window treatments are quite heavy and detailed patterns, these needs to be used along with simple furniture preferably plain in colour. If your furniture as well as curtains is heavily printed, it might prove to be an overdose for your room. Alternately the toile patterns can also be used in a room that is not used often, like the guest room.
Some typical patterns in toile window treatments are jungle animals, rural scenes, picnic scenes, gardens and butterflies, palm trees, and angels. A toile room can not only have window treatments but also some more toile patterns on places like bed sheets or covers, walls can use toile wallpaper, even small places like lamps, mats, sheets, pillows and pieces of other furniture in the room can also have matching or less distracting toile patterns. The last place to incorporate toile patterns is the floor itself. Ideally leave this free from toile to give a plain look. Preferably use dark coloured flooring to go with your toile room.
One thing to remember while using toile window treatments is that toile itself gives a weighty look even from distance. Hence it should be always mixed with plain pieces of furniture. Toile pattern if used in to many places would be a jungle of patterns creating overdose. Importantly, you can mix one toile pattern and colour for one room and stick to it rather than mixing three to four toile patterns for a single room. Hence this pattern should be used judiciously to give the rich look to your toile room.
Often I have seen people paying excessive attention to the styles of window patterns. Whether Tuscan, toile or Waverly, they choose to spend a lot of time deciding what design or colour to go for. But seldom do they pay attention to the size of the curtains themselves. Whether you buy readymade curtains or get them stitched, it is crucial to get the correct measurements. Otherwise it ends up looking as if you have borrowed it from your previous house. Window treatments are one thing that can make or break the appearance of your house, so be careful about all its aspects while buying.
