Keep Your Home Warm and Well Insulated
Experts all agree that one of the most efficient ways to keep your home warm and cosy is through the use of ceiling insulation.Since warm air rises it stands to reason that it will be lost through the ceiling area more than any other parts of the room. While is it important to shut doors and have sufficient insulation against the windows – e.g. rubber-backed curtains -having insulation batts in the ceiling is even more important.
Insulation batts can be made from a number of substances from foam to pure wool, but rockwool insulation is actually made from a natural product that has good insulation properties in its natural state – rock. Rockwool is made by melting volcanic rock at a high temperature and then spinning it into fine fibres that somewhat resembles wool. It can then be bonded into a slab so that when it is put into the ceiling cavity the fibres will give a maximum thermal performance.
Not only does rockwool have great insulating properties, it effectively provides a fire barrier in your home because it needs an extremely high temperature of over 1000c before it will ignite and burn. That said, it should still be kept away from heat sources when being installed as heat can easily build up. It also has acoustic properties due to its density, thus it can be used in walls to reduce noise. Additionally it is resistant to insect attack and rodents do not appear to like it. Rock wool does not shrink over time like some other types of insulation do.
Having the proper type of insulation in the home will ensure you pay the least amount possible for heating and cooling, thus saving both the planet and your wallet from extinction. And naturally, it will help to keep you more comfortable in times of extreme heat or cold.
